What do the different printing techniques involve?

Below you will find an explanation of each printing technique. Do you have any questions? Feel free to contact our printing specialists at info@pacoverpakkingen.nl.

Hot foil stamping
With hot foil stamping, a metallic stamp is heated and used to press a (standard) colored foil onto the product. This creates a light embossed effect, meaning the print is slightly lowered and can be felt.

The most commonly used foil colors are white, black, silver, and gold (all available in both matte and glossy finishes). In addition, various other colors are available, such as rose gold, copper, rainbow silver, and multiple metallic shades. Below you can find examples of products printed with foil stamping.

Screen printing
In screen printing, a mesh frame is created with a stencil that contains openings in the shape of the design. This frame is placed over the product, and ink is spread across it. The ink passes through the open areas of the stencil and is transferred onto the product.

The inks used are Pantone inks. Almost any Pantone color (PMS color) can be achieved, with the exception of fluorescent colors and certain metallic inks. Below you can find examples of products printed using screen printing.

DTF printing
With DTF printing (Direct To Film), the design is first printed onto a special film and then transferred onto the product using heat. This technique is ideal for full-color prints and designs with fine details or color gradients.

DTF printing delivers a sharp, durable print with vibrant colors, even on dark surfaces.

Flexographic printing
In flexographic printing, Pantone inks are transferred onto paper, cardboard, or plastic using a flexible polymer plate. It can be compared to a traditional hand stamp—the principle is similar.

Offset printing
Offset printing works similarly to flexographic printing, but instead of polymer plates, metal printing plates are used. A printing plate contains the design and transfers ink precisely to the correct areas.

This allows for much finer and more detailed printing, resulting in a higher-quality finish. Below you can find examples of products printed using offset printing.
